Grand Niagara, a Rees Jones’ signature design and the region’s top ranked golf course, was recently ranked #57 in Canada on SCOREGolf’s Top 59 Courses in Canada (2021). An absolute must-play when golfing in the Niagara region, there is even more reason to get a round in at this grand dame in 2023, as it is expected that 2023 will be that last year where the full 18 holes will be in operation (the property was recently acquired for a real estate project).

And all of our Niagara Falls golf packages are right in the heart of the action, downtown Niagara Falls, right where you want to be, in either the Clifton Hill or the Fallsview Blvd areas. We’re all about location, location, location, don’t visit Canada’s mini-Vegas, and ‘stay off the strip’.

With all of the fun to be had, the golf discussion sometimes gets overlooked, but there are some truly great spots to tee it up in the area.

• Grand Niagara – Niagara’s top ranked course, recently ranked #57 public course in Canada by SCOREGolf (2021). This course should be on every itinerary, full stop!
• Legends Usshers Creek – part of the spectacular 36 Championship holes Legends on the Niagara golf complex, the Ussher’s Creek course was designed by celebrated architect Thomas McBroom. Usshers Creek has been recognized by Beyond the Contour rankings as #100 public course in Canada
• Legends Battlefield – the other half of part of the Legends on the Niagara golf complex, designed by another of Canada’s most celebrated golf course architects Doug Carrick. Battlefield has been recognized by Beyond the Contour rankings as #102 public course in Canada, and recognized as the #17 Hidden Gem golf course in Canada on a 2023 GolfPass rankings
• Peninsula Lakes – heralded as the jewel of Niagara golf, and that statement definitely rings true. A beautiful and grand clubhouse, a Rene Mulyart designed 27-hole golf course, warm and welcoming staff, this is always a popular spot among our clients. About 30mins from downtown Niagara Falls, our clients typically play this course on the way into town, or the way out, for most efficient travel. Not to be outdone, Pen Lakes showed up as the #1 Hidden Gem golf course in Canada on a 2023 GolfPass rankings

Three Must-Plays, as Voted on by BGT Trip Advisors

• Whirlpool – designed by Canada’s most famous golf course architect, the legendary Stanley Thompson. In 2015, Whirlpool ranked #49 on SCOREGolf’s list of Top 59 Public Golf Courses in Canada. This is a must-play for aficionados or ‘golf course nerds’ – and although it was designed in the 1950’s, it still holds up to today’s standards as a true test of golf
• Twenty Valley – this one is off the beaten path, and is a definite hidden gem find. Designed by C.E Robinson in the 1960’s, this course might be one of his best. This track is nestled on top of the Niagara escarpment so the piece of land is some of the most interesting in the  area, incorporating dramatic elevation changes, multi-tiered greens and mature trees into the course that help distinguish it as one-of-a-kind for the Niagara region
• Niagara-on-the-Lake  – You’re swinging on history! First, the course is located on grounds involved in the war of 1812, a historic battle that shaped North America.  Most notable though, is this golf course’s claim as the oldest surviving golf course in North America, established in 1875. There are other golf clubs in North America that were founded a few years earlier (ie/ Royal Montreal in 1873) that have long since moved the golf course to a new location(s), however, NOTL Golf Club has never moved from it’s original location. 9 hole golf course that you can play twice to get 18 holes in

Pair these premier courses (above) with these niagara must-plays

• Thundering Waters – Only 5 minutes from the hotels in Niagara Falls, this course is a quick cab ride away which is great if your crew wants to be whisked around and enjoy some bevvies on the course. Knowns as the John Daly course, this track may surprise you in that it is a tighter, shorter  design (6000 yards from the tips) that doesn’t necessarily reward Daly’s grip it and rip it attitude. BUT, make no mistake, Thundering Waters is a day well spent with an emphasis on FUN. If your crew are golf course snobs (and it is OK if you are!!), keep in mind that the course is undergoing a bunker restoration project that has a few bunkers on the course growing in.
• Royal Niagara – designed by the well-respected but lesser known Ted Baker, Royal Niagara is a very solid 27 holes of golf. The course design pulls from the natural surroundings of the Bruce Trail and the Niagara Escarpment, and features undulating greens, cavernous bunkers, and an abundance of water. The course hosted the 2003 Telus Skins Game, where Vijay Singh bested Leggatt, Daly and Garcia.
• Niagara National – If you are looking to save a few dollars, have this track put into your package. A Rene Mulyart design, the course is located less than 20 minutes from our hotels, and is a solid test of golf. Large tees, great greens, interesting natural surroundings, this is definitely a worthwhile play in Niagara.
• Port Colborne – This is a swing back in time to golf from a different era. From the long laneway that you drive down upon arrival, to the course layout that feels like a smooth, stroll in the park, this is golf in its purest form
• Rockway Vineyards – If you requested a golf course / winery, yup, you’ve got it! Designed by the well-known Canadian golf architect Robert Moote, Rockway Vineyards is definitely one of Niagara’s must-plays, with a great test of golf, and always great conditions. Located west of St Catharines, play this track on the way to Niagara Falls, or on the way home
• Seneca Hickory Sticks (USA side) – a perfect play for our US friends to play on their day of departure, but also great for Canadians to “venture to the other side” and cross the border, only 22 mins with no traffic. This course is highly regarded, designed by Robert Trent Jones II (brother of Rees Jones, designer of Grand Niagara). This course would likely be considered an absolute must-play for your Niagara trip, but border crossings aren’t for everyone. If that doesn’t bother you, put this one in your itinerary!
