Taboo Muskoka
Taboo Muskoka is a golf club, resort and spa located just north of Gravenhurst, Ontario, on the shores of Muskoka Lake. Designed by golf architect Ron Garl, this 18-hole, par 71 course was built on the intimidating, rugged terrain common in the Muskoka region. This provided a unique design challenge for Ron, and it took almost 2 years to properly route the course in order to ensure the natural elements were both preserved and highlighted. Since it was opened in 2002, the course has been ranked within the top 50 courses in Canada on multiple occasions. The course measures 7,340 from the back tees, and 5,187 from the front tees. With four tee boxes in total, Taboo is accessible for all skill levels. But even golf legend, Mike Weir, has called the course both playable and challenging.
The course underwent a bunker renovation in 2019, which both reshaped the bunkers and made functional improvements as well. Taboo Muskoka also has a 19th challenge hole, where players can compete for who can hit their ball closest to the pin. There is also a 9-hole practice course that was designed back in 1928 by golf architect Stanley Thompson. There are multiple dining options on-site, including The Boathouse Restaurant, which looks out over Lake Muskoka and the 19th hole, which, as the name implies, is by the 19th hole.
