The Lakes at Ben Eoin is a golf club and resort on Cape Breton Island that opened in 2010. According to course designer Graham Cooke, each hole offers a unique postcard view, and we’d have to agree. Graham made some bold choices in this modern course design, and you’ll definitely need a golf cart to navigate the sometimes extreme terrain. There is no consistency across the holes in this course, so golfers will encounter a new surprise around each bend. The golf course is truly stunning, featuring lush meadows, rocky outcrops, beautiful streams and views out over Bras d’Or Lakes.
It’s one of the most exciting course designs in all of Nova Scotia, with 18 holes stretching across three platforms amongst a pine forest. At its top elevation, the course sits 150 feet above sea level, and while it’s definitely got its fair share of challenges, it’s generous enough for recreational players too. The resort is only a 20-minute drive from Sydney, and it has guest rooms, suites and cottages on site so you can stay and play. Plus, they have an on-site restaurant (Founders Restaurant) with a picturesque patio facing the lake.
