Renfrew Golf Club, one of Eastern Ontario’s best plays, is our favourite track in the Ottawa Valley. With an incredible history, including its first 9 holes constructed in 1929 by one of Canadian Golf’s most important figures in George Cumming, the course has evolved with the times, recently completing a green renovation project that saw 18 newly rebuilt championship greens. Image above, Hole 18, par 5, is one of the best finishing holes in Eastern Ontario.
Ottawa Valley Golf Stay and Plays
The Ottawa Valley is a great spot to visit. Friendly and humble people, beautiful surroundings, The Valley as it is affectionately known, is always worth the visit.
Approximately 1 hr away from downtown Ottawa, The Valley it is the perfect distance away for a quick jaunt. It may only be 1hr away from Canada’s capital city, but it feels like a world away from the fast pace tempo synonymous with city life.
There are a number of hidden gem golf courses in The Valley that are must-plays. These courses are well-known within golfing circles, and the secret is getting out … The Valley has some tracks you got to tee it up on!
- Whitetail Golf Club: Whitetail is a gem, and it has received many accolades and recognition to show it is deserving of this title. The golf course has been recognized by Flagstick Readers as one the Best Public Course in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec, and in 2023 was recognized by Golfpass as the #5 hidden gem golf course in Canada. This golf course routing is special, taking you on a journey through nature as your round gracefully maneuvers through this heavily treed property, in and out of the natural valleys, serving up one of the best “ebbs and flows” feel a golf course can deliver.
- Renfrew Golf Club: Renfrew Golf Club is our favourite in The Valley, and after a round, it is likely to become yours too. This exceptional track opened in 1929 as a 9 hole course, constructed by Melville Millar and George Cumming, one of Canadian Golf’s most important figures who is often referred to as the “Dean of Canadian Professional Golfers”. The course expanded to 18 holes in 1973, and since then has been considered one of the best in The Valley, having been recognized by Flagstick Readers as one of the Best Public Course in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. The course has some great routing alongside lush farmland, mature forests and the Bonnechere River watershed, and the golf course features are exceptional; perfectly sculpted bunkers, 18 newly rebuilt championship greens and superb conditions. The perfect closing par 5, Hole 18 is one of the best finishing holes in Eastern Ontario.
- Oaks of Cobden: designed by well known architect Robert Moote, the Oaks of Cobden is one of those hidden gem golf courses you happen upon. Well known by golf enthusiasts within a 1hr radius as a course that is ‘worth the drive’, the Oaks is a great golfing experience.
