Golfing along the Atlantic Ocean and enjoying that classic east coast hospitality and slower pace of life makes Nova Scotia an incredible destination for golfers. The unique coastline and landscapes of Eastern Canada provide an added challenge to both golfers and architects alike. But which of the almost 40 golf courses in Nova Scotia are most worth playing? Here are the top 5 golf courses in Nova Scotia.
the Links at Brunello
Designed by legendary Canadian golf architect Tom McBroom, The Links at Brunello is situated on a huge property development and has received many awards since opening in 2015. This includes many features in the top 100 courses in Canada from SCOREGolf. Wetlands have been woven into the course design to maintain environmental integrity, and with a number of elevated tees, you’ll have a great view out over the course. There are also practice facilities on-site, a golf shop and it’s only located about 15 minutes from Downtown Halifax.
Fox Harb’r Golf Course
Fox Harb’r Golf Course is part of the Fox Harb’r Resort, which is the only five-star golf resort in Nova Scotia. With a championship golf course that runs along the Atlantic Ocean (Tiger Woods holds the record), a spa and luxury accommodations, the Fox Harb’r Resort is perfect for golfers who enjoy the finer things in life. But beyond that, the 18-hole course provides a links-style design, so you’ll feel like you’re playing in Scotland, with some incredible vistas and over 7,205 yards to enjoy.
Northumberland Links
For one of the more challenging courses in the country, head to Northumberland Links. What began as a 9-hole course back in the 60s was expanded to its 18-hole design in 1988. Because of its location on the Northumberland Strait you can expect some heavy winds, with the added challenge of strategically placed bunkers. Even experienced players can expect a struggle with the bent grass greens but the beautiful views over the strait more than make up for it. Northumberland Links also has a clubhouse, pro shop and restaurant on-site.
osprey ridge
Osprey Ridge is an 18-hole, par 72 course that has roots dating back to the 1920s! With the expertise of golf architect Graham Cooke, the unique design of Osprey Ridge took shape and was officially opened in 1998. On first open, all you would have found is a trailer and a port-a-potty, but now the golf course is well recognized and has even hosted multiple national tournaments. It offers four sets of tees, making it accessible to any skill level and features a total of 54 bunkers and water hazards on 10 holes.
Glen Arbour
Last but not least we have Glen Arbour Golf Course, a private golf club that sits on a picturesque forested landscape, with the name itself meaning “vale of trees” in Scottish. The course has many elevation changes, which make each hole entirely unique. The primary course features 18 holes and is 6,800 yards. But they also have a 9-hole executive course as well. With both Bottle Lake and Sandy Lake set within the grounds you can expect the challenge of water hazards, but can finish up your game with a pint at their on-site pub. Deerfield Pub, and a clubhouse that offers incredible views over the lake for wildlife spotting.
