A Blue Mountain golf trip puts your group in a walkable resort village at the foot of the Niagara Escarpment, with one course a short stroll from your room and some of Georgian Bay’s best public golf within an hour’s drive. This guide covers the courses and where to stay, then how we’d put the days together for different group sizes and trip lengths.
Quick Overview:
Blue Mountain sits about two hours north of Toronto in the Town of The Blue Mountains, with Collingwood next door. Monterra is the resort’s own course and the only one you can walk to from the Village. Lora Bay is roughly 15 minutes west in Thornbury, Duntroon Highlands sits up on the escarpment south of Collingwood, and Cobble Beach is about an hour away near Owen Sound. Groups stay in the Village, choosing between condo-style suites, the Blue Mountain Inn, the Westin Trillium House and Mosaic. Two nights and two rounds covers a weekend, and three to five nights opens up the full course list.
Why Blue Mountain makes a great golf Trip

Blue Mountain’s advantage for golf trips is how close everything sits. Monterra’s first tee is a short walk from the hotels and suites in Blue Mountain Village, and the Village itself is a pedestrian zone of restaurants, patios and bars, so nobody has to drive after the round or arrange a ride back from dinner. Downtown Collingwood is about 15 minutes east when the group wants a change of scene for a night.
That setup especially pays off for groups with mixed priorities. The players who want 36 holes and an early night can share a base with the ones who want a late patio session, and partners or friends who don’t golf have Scandinave Spa, the Ridge Runner mountain coaster and the Bruce Trail close by. It works especially well for buddy trips and milestone weekends, and for corporate golf trips that want a resort setting within two hours of the city.
Blue Mountain Golf Courses to Build Around

Monterra Golf
Monterra is Blue Mountain Resort’s own course and one of Thomas McBroom’s earliest designs, opened in 1989 at the base of the ski hills. It plays as a par 72 at about 6,580 yards from the back tees, with heavy mounding, a run of ponds and creeks, and the ski runs as a backdrop on most holes. Several tee sets bring it well under 6,000 yards, which helps when a group mixes low handicaps with occasional golfers. Since you can walk to it from your room, Monterra is the natural pick for an arrival-day round or a final morning before the drive home.
The Golf Club at Lora Bay
Lora Bay, about 15 minutes west in Thornbury, is the course most groups build the trip around. Tom Lehman and Thomas McBroom co-designed it on the band of land between the escarpment and Georgian Bay, routing holes through hardwood forest and limestone with the bay in sight from the higher ground. It ranks among SCOREGolf’s top public courses in Canada and gives the trip its championship round.
Cobble Beach Golf Links
Cobble Beach sits on the Georgian Bay shoreline north of Owen Sound, about an hour from the Village. Doug Carrick designed it as a links-style course, and the bay is in view from every hole. It also ranks among Canada’s top public courses, and the feedback from our clients after playing it is consistent: the drive is the right call. Plan it as the centrepiece of a full day, with lunch at the clubhouse and dinner back in the Village.
Duntroon Highlands
Duntroon Highlands is a family-run course on the escarpment south of Collingwood, and it lays claim to the highest tees in Ontario. At just under 6,000 yards and par 71 it plays shorter than the others here, though water comes into play on 12 holes and the elevated tee shot on the ninth is one of the best known in the region. It fits well as the second round of a 36-hole day or as a lower-pressure round for the higher handicaps in the group.
Courses on the Drive Up
Groups coming from the GTA pass through the Barrie area on Highway 400, which makes it easy to turn travel day into a golf day. The Nest at Friday Harbour in Innisfil is a Doug Carrick design known for sculpted terrain and excellent conditioning, and it ranks among the country’s top public courses. Settlers Ghost in Barrie hosted the CN Canadian Women’s Tour in 2006 and 2007, and Tangle Creek in Thornton is one of the most popular public tracks in the area.
Where to Stay on a Blue Mountain Golf Trip

Village Suites are condo-style units in the centre of the Village with full kitchens and separate living space, which is what most groups of six or more want. Breakfast and pre-round coffee happen in the suite, and the patios are a two-minute walk away. This is the default base for buddy trips.
Blue Mountain Inn is the better value option, with traditional hotel rooms, an indoor pool, indoor and outdoor hot tubs and a sauna. The Pottery Restaurant covers meals on site, and Jozo’s Bar, a longtime local spot inside the inn, is where plenty of groups end up after golf. It suits groups keeping an eye on cost who still want to be a short walk from the Village.
The Westin Trillium House sits beside Mill Pond with deluxe rooms and apartment-style suites, a year-round heated outdoor pool, hot tubs facing the mountain and an Oliver & Bonacini restaurant on site. It’s the pick for corporate groups and milestone trips that want hotel service and a more polished feel.
Mosaic Suites are lodge-style condos right on the Village’s main pedestrian path, with gas fireplaces, kitchens and, in some units, private outdoor space. There’s a heated outdoor pool, hot tub and sauna, and iwa Spa is steps away. Mosaic works for groups who want suite space and the shortest possible walk to dinner.
How to Plan a Blue Mountain Golf Trip

A two-night, two-round weekend covers Monterra and Lora Bay and fits a Friday-to-Sunday trip. Three nights lets you add Cobble Beach without rushing the drive, and four or five nights opens up the full lineup, including Duntroon and a round on the way up. Most Village properties require a three-night minimum for stays that include a Saturday between late June and Labour Day, so groups heading up in peak summer usually arrive Thursday or Friday.
Summer weekends at Lora Bay and Cobble Beach fill early, and so does Village lodging. Booking well ahead is how a group of eight or twelve gets morning tee times together on the same day, which is difficult to piece together independently. Late September and early October are good value timing, with fall colour on the escarpment and quieter tee sheets.
We handle tee times and rooms and build a day-by-day itinerary that goes to every player before the trip. Each person pays us directly through a link, so the organizer isn’t fronting costs or chasing deposits. Our Blue Mountain golf packages page lays out the accommodation and course combinations if you want to see how a trip comes together.

Book Your Blue Mountain Golf Trip
Blue Mountain covers what most groups want from an Ontario golf trip without a long drive to get there. You get a walkable Village base and a course you can reach on foot. Lora Bay and Cobble Beach are both within an hour, and the lodging runs from value hotel rooms to full suites with kitchens. A weekend works with two rounds, and a longer stay leaves room for Duntroon and a stop on the way up.
The planning is where most group trips get stuck. Tee times for a full group on the same morning, rooms in the right building and payments from every player take time to line up. We handle all of it and send each player the itinerary before departure. Schedule a 15-minute call, and we’ll build the trip around your group’s dates and the courses you want to play.
