Ontario doesn’t always get the same spotlight as British Columbia or Alberta when it comes to golf travel, but it’s quietly home to some of the most varied public courses in the country. The latest SCOREGolf Top 59 list proves the point, with nine Ontario layouts that show just how diverse the province’s golf scene really is.
Muskoka Bay — #10

Muskoka Bay in Gravenhurst has long been a benchmark for resort golf in Ontario. Doug Carrick’s design moves naturally through the granite and pines, and while it looks dramatic, it’s also strategic. The resort setting makes it easy to turn a single round into a full weekend getaway.
Rocky Crest — #12

Rocky Crest, another Muskoka favourite, has that same Canadian Shield feel but is a little more forgiving. Thomas McBroom designed it to flow with the land, so the elevation changes feel natural rather than forced. It’s a true resort course where you can play in the morning and spend the afternoon on the lake.
Manitou Ridge — #25

Manitou Ridge near Parry Sound often flies under the radar compared to Muskoka’s headline courses, but it’s one of the most peaceful places to play in Ontario. The routing winds through forest before opening onto lakeside views that make you want to stay on the tee just a little longer. It’s well worth the extra drive north.
Cobble Beach — #28

Cobble Beach near Owen Sound feels completely different from the rest. It’s open, breezy, and has a coastal atmosphere thanks to its location on Georgian Bay. The design has plenty of movement and character, and the water views alone make it one of the most scenic rounds in the province.
Tarandowah Golfers Club — #31

Southwest of London, Tarandowah Golfers Club offers something unique in Ontario. It’s a firm, fast, links-style course designed by Martin Hawtree that plays like something straight out of Scotland. There’s nothing flashy about it, but the strategy and challenge keep golfers coming back year after year.
Black Bear Ridge — #33

In Belleville, Black Bear Ridge offers a smart blend of modern design and traditional feel. It’s walkable, fair, and consistently in great shape. There has been talk of redevelopment around the property, but the course itself remains one of Ontario’s most enjoyable and well-respected public layouts.
Taboo Muskoka — #52

Taboo sits just outside Gravenhurst and still feels as fresh as it did when Doug Carrick first designed it. It winds through thick forest with the classic Muskoka mix of elevation, rock, and water. The resort setting makes it an easy choice if you want to combine a great course with a relaxing stay.
Deerhurst Highlands — #54

Deerhurst Highlands in Huntsville has been around since the early 1990s and continues to be a favourite among resort golfers. It’s fun, scenic, and a little more forgiving than some of the newer Muskoka designs. If you base yourself in Huntsville, it pairs perfectly with Taboo or Muskoka Bay for a weekend circuit.
Seguin Valley — #59

Seguin Valley, near Parry Sound, rounds out Ontario’s representation on the list. It’s remote, surrounded by forest, and full of personality. Expect big elevation changes, natural hazards, and an island green that most golfers never forget. It’s a great pick for anyone who enjoys adventure-style golf.
